During an internship, the use case described in the paper “Modeling Smart Grid Applications with Co-Simulation” was reproduced using new simulation tools, in particular DaceDSX. The goal was to reconstruct and evaluate the presented co-simulation setup in terms of its reproducibility and applicability.
During the implementation, it became evident that key information was missing from the paper and that the authors’ original implementations were not publicly available, which significantly hindered the reproduction effort. These challenges led to broader considerations regarding the documentation and reusability of research artefacts. Based on these experiences, the FAIR4RS principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable Software) were extended and refined with a particular focus on co-simulation approaches in order to address existing gaps in practical model and tool descriptions.
