On Tuesday, 3 February 2026, together with students from the Communication Systems course, our chair had the opportunity to visit Hetzner in Nuremberg. The visit offered an insightful look into how large-scale infrastructure is designed, built, and reliably operated in practice, from hardware deployment and data center operations to automation, monitoring, and service delivery at scale.
Hetzner provides dedicated servers and colocation options, scalable cloud infrastructure such as virtual machines, storage, and networking services, as well as domain and hosting solutions. It was especially valuable to hear about their engineering and operational choices and to discuss real-world constraints related to efficiency, availability, and security.
We would like to sincerely thank the Hetzner team for hosting us and for the open, informative conversations. The visit was both motivating for our students and highly relevant to our academic work, and we appreciate the time and effort invested in making it such a useful experience.
