On 24 June 2026, Dr.-Ing. Loui Al Sardy, Head of the Network Security Group at the Lab of Computer Networks and Communication Systems (Informatik 7), Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), delivered an invited talk at the FAUinsights event hosted by the Energy Campus Nuremberg (EnCN).
The presentation, entitled “Cybersecurity und Trustworthy AI für kritische Infrastrukturen”, addressed the growing cybersecurity challenges facing modern energy systems and highlighted how Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) can contribute to building secure, resilient, and transparent critical infrastructures.
The talk covered key topics including:
- The increasing cyber threats targeting energy infrastructures
- The role of Artificial Intelligence in detecting and mitigating cyber attacks
- Trustworthy AI principles for safety-critical applications
- The EU AI Act and AI Governance
- Cybersecurity standards and regulatory frameworks, including NIS2, IEC 62443, and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
- Practical challenges and future research directions for resilient energy systems
The event concluded with a practical perspective provided by Stefan Beyer (Siemens AG), who demonstrated how cybersecurity concepts are implemented in industrial energy networks and emphasized the importance of integrating IT and OT security throughout the entire system lifecycle.
The presentations stimulated an engaging discussion with participants from academia, industry, and the public, highlighting the increasing importance of combining Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Governance to protect critical infrastructures.
The Lab of Computer Networks and Communication Systems would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Energy Campus Nuremberg (EnCN) for organizing this excellent event. Special thanks go to the entire organizing team, including Sabrina Löw, Kristin Zeug, and moderator Anja Preitschaft, for the outstanding organization and support throughout the event. We also thank Siemens AG, particularly Stefan Beyer, for sharing valuable industrial insights and contributing to a successful exchange between research and practice.
