Loui Al Sardy Speaks at the Transformative Sustainability Actions Workshop in Cairo, Egypt
We are pleased to announce that Dr.-Ing. Loui Al Sardy was invited as a speaker at the Transformative Sustainability Actions Workshop, held on September 1–2, 2025 at Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development in Cairo, Egypt.
The event was organised in collaboration with DAAD and under the umbrella of the COSIMENA initiative (Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa), bringing together international experts and academics to address urgent sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary dialogue.
In his talk titled “Cybersecurity and Trustworthy AI for Critical Infrastructure”, delivered during the opening session “Climate-Neutral Energy Systems & Safety”, Dr. Al Sardy explored the intersection of cybersecurity, AI technologies, and critical infrastructure, with a focus on energy systems, smart grids, and industrial IoT.
The presentation addressed:
- Emerging cyber threats in cyber-physical environments
- The importance of resilience and standards in AI integration
- Regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act, NIST Risk Management Framework, and OWASP Top 10 for LLMs
- The role of human-centred trust in high-stakes, AI-supported decision-making
The talk illustrated both real-world cases and conceptual frameworks, highlighting the delicate balance between innovation and risk, and emphasised the need for responsible AI adoption to support sustainable digital transformation in critical sectors.
Dr. Al Sardy also contributed to a cross-institutional panel discussion on day two, alongside international colleagues from Germany, Jordan, and Egypt, sharing perspectives on knowledge exchange, digital resilience, and academic collaboration.
We thank Prof. Dr. Omar Ramzy and the entire organising team at Heliopolis University for the kind invitation and excellent hosting. It was a pleasure to be part of this meaningful and impactful event at the interface of technology, sustainability, and policy.
